Slav Epic in music and movement

The Slav Epic by Alfons Mucha will come to life in a captivating symbiosis of live music, acrobatics, dance, folklore, and light. The Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, BoCirk Company, and director Petr Forman will transform the Ostrava Gong into an impressive world of images, movement, and emotions. Step into a story that connects Slavic history with the energy of contemporary art.

Gong – Dolní Vítkovice

The concert will take place on Thursday, 3rd December 2026, in the multifunctional hall Gong in Dolní Vítkovice. According to the organiser, it will start at 18:00 and last approximately 60 minutes. It is part of the G cycle – Gong Cycle of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava.

Under the baton of Daniel Raiskin, excerpts from the compositions Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, New World Symphony by Antonín Dvořák, and Vltava by Bedřich Smetana will be performed. The music will be complemented by dozens of artists from the fields of acrobatics, dance, new circus, and theatre. Video projections and light design will create a changing world inspired by Mucha's imagery – from pagan rituals through spiritual transformations and historical conflicts to the search for identity. The project is created in collaboration with the Mucha Foundation and the Moravský Krumlov Castle, where the Slav Epic is exhibited.

Multifunctional hall Gong

Gong was created by converting a gas holder from 1922–1924, which stored 50,000 m³ of purified blast furnace gas until 1998. The reconstruction was designed by architect Josef Pleskot, and the hall was opened in 2012. The main hall has 1509 seats. Tickets are sold by the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava on its website.
