Dolní Vítkovice

Description – Bolt Café

Café in the Clouds. The charming and unique view of Ostrava will make your time spent enjoying a cup of coffee or a drink unforgettable. Let yourself be pampered and spoiled at nearly eighty metres above the ground. Reservation required!

Bolt Café is located in Bolt Tower, an observation extension at the top of Blast Furnace No. 1 in Dolní Vítkovice. The extension was designed by architect Josef Pleskot and completed in 2015. The café is situated in a glass cylinder of the extension, around which a spiral walkway leads up to a height of 77 metres. The furnace with the extension measures 77.7 metres, and Bolt Tower is the highest geographical point in Ostrava.

From the observation platforms, there is a view of Ostrava and, on clear days, even the Beskydy mountains. Bolt Tower is one of the landmarks of the entire Dolní Vítkovice complex.

Blast Furnace No. 1

The history of the first blast furnace in Vítkovice dates back to 1871. Production in the area ended with the last tapping on 27 September 1998. In 2011–2012, the furnace was adapted according to Josef Pleskot's design into an educational and observation route and was opened to the public on 20 March 2012. Today, it is part of the guided tour called the High Furnace Circuit with Bolt Tower, which you can combine with a visit to the café.
