Dolní Vítkovice
Description – Futureum
About Futureum
Futureum connects industrial history with art, technology, and a glimpse into the future. Exhibitions, tours, accompanying programs, and a unique space focused on innovation.
You can find Futureum in the buildings of the former coal tippler and coal mill in Dolní Vítkovice, at the address Vítkovice 3044. Both buildings were part of a system where black coal was prepared for coke production for nearly 70 years. They are part of the national cultural monument Důl Hlubina, the blast furnace, and the coke plant of Vítkovice Ironworks, protected since 2002. The founders of the project decided to save the flooded and dilapidated buildings and open them to the public.
Exhibitions and Program
In three reconstructed floors, exhibitions, artistic installations, and interventions on themes of the contemporary world, the future, climate protection, and new ways of using energy alternate. From 8 October 2026 to 30 January 2027, you can visit the collective exhibition of photographers Sisters in Photography here. Futureum also includes the Laboratory of the Future, which develops new solutions, and coworking for creatives seeking community. The spaces are also available for private and corporate events.

The guided tour Coal Journey – Special will take you into the authentic spaces of the tippler and mill. You will learn how coal was mined in the Ostrava region and how it was processed and milled, peek into the control room of the coal service, and thanks to augmented reality, you will see the coking batteries at their peak.
