Opening of the exhibition Godspeed, friends!
Hardly anyone has been unaffected by the end of coal mining in some way. However, in Vítkovice, we will never forget what we would not be without. Therefore, we are preparing the exhibition Godspeed, friends! at the Gong Gallery. Join us for the opening on 25th March 2026 at 17:30. Mining uniforms are welcome, and entry to the opening is free.
About the exhibition
The exhibition subtitled "Confession of Centuries. Mining activities in images, artifacts, and memories of mining families" runs from 25th March to 7th June 2026. It maps mining in Northern Moravia and its impact on people's lives and the region's appearance.
You will see paintings with mining themes by Vilém Wünsche, Ferdiš Duša, Vlastimil Rada, Julie Bérová, František Hřivna, and Josef Štolovský, as well as a large painting Miners by Josef Liesler. They are complemented by photographs, chronicles, books, uniforms, and other artifacts. In front of the gallery stands a replica of the last cart of coal from the ČSM Mine in Stonava, where mining ended on the night shift on 31st January 2026. The preparation of the exhibition was supported by OKD, a.s. and VÍTKOVICE, a.s.
Gong Gallery
The Gong Gallery is located in the entrance hall of the multifunctional auditorium Gong, in the basement of the former gas holder, at Ruská 2993. It was opened on 8th March 2022 and focuses on visual arts, aiming to make it accessible to people who find it difficult to connect with it. Admission to the exhibition is 120 CZK, reduced 60 CZK.
