From the gas holder to the multifunctional hall

The wet gas holder construction began on November 22, 1922, and was completed in January 1924. It served to store purified gas from the blast furnaces. Operations ceased in 1998 along with the production of raw iron in Dolní Vítkovice.

The reconstruction according to the design of architect Josef Pleskot began in November 2010. In January 2011, the gas holder bell was lifted by 1,492 cm, creating space for new halls inside. The Multifunctional Hall Gong opened to the public on May 1, 2012. In 2013, the building was ranked among the top ten buildings in the world at the EXPO REAL fair in Munich.
