Hydrogen Cars in Schools Project
On Thursday, 1st October 2026, selected primary schools from the Moravian-Silesian Region will receive kits for building hydrogen model cars at the H2 Forum in DK Poklad in Ostrava-Poruba. The official handover will mark the start of the Hydrogen Cars in Schools project, with main partners including the World of Technology and the Moravian-Silesian Hydrogen Cluster. Other partners include Hyundai, TATRA, and VŠB-TUO.
How to introduce children to hydrogen, fuel cells, and modern energy? The best way is for them to build, test, and then compete with them. This is the foundation of the entire project. Students in the second stage will work with Horizon H2GP Sprint hydrogen car models throughout the school year.
From the Hydrogen Phenomenon Programme to the Racing Track
However, the handover of kits is just the beginning. The participating schools and their student teams will undergo an educational programme called Hydrogen Phenomenon at the World of Technology during the autumn. They will learn how hydrogen is produced, how a fuel cell works, and where hydrogen is used in transport and energy. Then comes the construction, testing, and tuning of the models. The climax of the pilot year will be the regional round of the competition at the World of Technology in February 2027.
The models come from the international educational programme Horizon Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), where students around the world assemble and race RC models powered by hydrogen.
We want to show children that technology is not just textbook material, but something that can be handled, disassembled, improved, and put on the track.
We wish the participating schools the best of luck and look forward to the first races!
