SpaceBuzz is heading to Ostrava. The World of Technology is preparing a space weekend full of experiences

A virtual flight into Earth's orbit, astronaut training, a cinema with films about space, military technology, and an interactive programme for children and families. On Saturday, 30 May 2026, the Dolní Vítkovice area will transform into a space base. The main attraction of the all-day event will be the unique SpaceBuzz simulator – an eighteen-metre truck shaped like a rocket that will transport visitors directly into space using virtual reality.

The programme is part of the national project Czech Path to Space, which connects space activities with the development of Czech science, technology, and education. The preparation involves the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Observatory and Planetarium of Prague, the Observatory and Planetarium of Brno, the Planetarium of Ostrava, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VŠB–TUO, the University of Defence, and other partners.

What is SpaceBuzz?

SpaceBuzz is a mobile space simulator styled as a rocket. Inside, visitors will experience a simulated flight into Earth's orbit and, through cutting-edge virtual reality, will see the planet through the eyes of astronauts. The experience also includes the so-called "Overview Effect" – a powerful emotional moment that astronauts describe when viewing Earth from space. SpaceBuzz is recommended for children aged 9 and above.

The outdoor zone will offer free attractions

In front of the Great World of Technology, a large space zone full of activities for children and adults will be created. Visitors will be able to try for free:

  • SpaceBuzz – a virtual flight into Earth's orbit
  • space gyroscope simulating astronaut overload
  • balance disciplines and astronaut training
  • scientific experiment by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of VŠB–TUO, being prepared for a real journey into space
  • solar observation with special telescopes from the Planetarium of Ostrava
  • astro games for children
  • photo booth with an astronaut
  • giant models of planets and rockets
  • the first part of the interactive "Space Passport"
  • The programme will also include a presentation by the Army of the Czech Republic. Vehicles such as TITUS, Iveco, and Toyota Hilux will be displayed in the parking lot opposite the area, along with demonstrations of equipment, armaments, and competition stations for the public. An aviation simulator provided by the University of Defence will also be prepared. Meet with the cadets of the Zero-G mission.

Meeting with the cadets of the Zero-G mission

A significant part of the programme will also be meetings with the cadets of the Zero-G mission, who have completed a flight in a weightless state. Visitors will be able to listen to their experiences and learn more about how similar projects inspire young people to take an interest in science, technology, and space research.

Paid programme inside the World of Technology

The indoor programme will be accessible with a standard ticket to the Great World of Technology and will offer lectures, screenings, and interactive tasks as part of the "Space Passport". Room capacities may be limited, so the organisers recommend arriving early.
