Exhibition – Velký Svět Techniky

Exhibition ZooM

On the ground floor of the Great World of Technology, a new interactive exhibition ZooM (Focus, Discover, Reveal, Think) is opening. The main goal of this exhibition is to develop visual literacy, which is the ability to understand visual material (photos). The exhibition also aims to develop critical thinking, leading individuals to reflect on possible manipulation and to demonstrate through simple examples how fake news can arise. A key element of the exhibition is photos with ambiguous messages, and their real stories often surprise. At the same time, the exhibition is complemented by interactive exhibits that further help convey the message in an entertaining way.

The exhibition was created with the support and idea of the US Embassy in Prague, in collaboration with the educational center TEREZA in Prague.

However, the effort to develop visual literacy among students does not end with the ZooM exhibition, and thus a website Art of Seeing has been added, which helps teachers incorporate this topic into their teaching.

ART OF SEEING is a website about education for a world where words are not enough. How to understand photographs and other visual materials? In a rapidly changing world, a jungle of media, and the age of social networks, photos, videos, and images become the main communication tools. The ability to understand visual material is one of the basic needs of today. Our new website will help you develop this ability. Playfully, through activities for teaching and other tools.

Living normally

The lives of people with disabilities are not easy. We may sometimes wonder how the disabled can work, play sports, or move around the house, but we often do not realize how some activities we take for granted are not so for others. However, thanks to technological development, there is an abundance of assistive devices and equipment available for people with disabilities that help them overcome challenges.

Our original exhibition Living Normally will show you the world of disability from a different perspective… Understand the worlds of the mentally ill. Come visit the apartment of a person in a wheelchair and try out all the various compensatory aids that help them in everyday life. Try different sports – shoot at a target with your eyes covered or sit in para-hockey sleds and try to score a goal! Discover various tools, technologies, and innovations for both physically and mentally disabled individuals.

This exhibition was realized with the support and financial resources of the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs as part of the Employment Plus operational program.

The exhibition can be found on the 2nd floor

CT Déčko Exhibition

Inside our science center, you will find a special exhibition dedicated to Déčko! You can try out a TV studio and the work of a weather TV presenter. The exhibition also includes interactive screens, where you can play the best online games and quizzes from the Déčko website. And finally, you can build Duháček from giant foam blocks!

You can find the CT Déčko exhibition near the cinema hall on the ground floor.

Other CT Déčko exhibitions can be found in the science centers in Plzeň, Liberec, or Brno.

World of civilization

As part of the project "FUTUROVA!!! – Find Your Place in the Future" realized with financial assistance from the statutory city of Ostrava, we have transformed the exhibition World of Civilization.

The aim of the new interactive exhibition is to raise awareness of the importance of human position and its impact on the environment. The main themes we address in the exhibition are DECARBONIZATION OF THE PLANET, WATER, CIRCULAR ECONOMY, AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

Visitors have the opportunity to realize how humans transform nature for their benefit and how they should manage and utilize its natural resources. Our planet is generating an increasing amount of waste, much of which can be reused for further processing, thus alleviating the burden on the environment. The amount of greenhouse gases can also be effectively reduced and transformed into new energy sources.

In modern civilization, we work with vast amounts of data, which become a very important raw material for creating data models. They enable machine learning, which is the basis of artificial intelligence, and this can subsequently assist humans in their endeavors.

How do our inventions and technologies influence our lives and the environment, and how can we actively contribute to the positive and negative direction of civilization?

World of Science and Discoveries

In a total of five thematic areas, the exhibition emphasizes the structures of the world around us and the technologies we encounter or will increasingly encounter in the future. In the "Robolab", visitors can meet humanoid robots Pepper and Nao, take a close look at the world of 3D printing and its wide-ranging applications, test artificial intelligence, or experience virtual reality firsthand. The "Mathematics" section introduces you to mathematical formulas, systems, and problems in a playful way. "Physics" showcases waves in all their forms and relationships, while the "Nano and Micro" area invites visitors through microscopes on a journey into the smallest dimensions of our environment. "Medical Technologies" illustrate how modern technologies extend and support lives, and what innovations (such as artificial joints) ease our daily lives.

World of Nature

In the World of Nature and its eleven different areas, visitors will learn to better understand the world around them. From the "Iron Oasis", referencing the history of Ostrava as a city of heavy metal and ironworks, you pass through "Fauna", "Tree", "Human", "Universe" to "Energy", "Light" and "Electric Energy".

Here you can learn to understand how the world around us works through exhibits that you can manipulate with your own hands or through media stations. Visitors can climb a giant tree, fish using sonar like dolphins, find out where energy comes from, etc. Everywhere you can encounter phenomena that we regularly encounter in our daily lives.

Part of the exhibition is also an outdoor garden covering 2000 square meters, inviting visitors to meet "real" nature.

Imaginarium

Unleash your imagination and step into the amazing world of the Imaginarium of the Forman Brothers and their friends! A fantastical exhibition where you will feel like in a fairy tale, drawing you into a dream world guided by wooden figures, puppets, circus horses, and sports champions. The exhibition for all playful souls is open from Tuesday to Sunday (10:00-18:00). You can look forward to 10 thematic corners, each containing hundreds of handcrafted objects, where everyone will find something for themselves. Adults are invited for an amazing return to childhood, while young athletes can enjoy a velodrome or bowling with meerkats, while the smallest can ride on a fairground carousel or compete with other children on a fox racing track. Artist Matěj Forman and his friends have prepared an exhibition you won't forget, so don't miss it.
