Description – Malý Svět Techniky U6
U6 in a new coat! In June 2023, U6 underwent extensive renovation. Thanks to this revitalisation, visitors can look forward to new experiences. As is customary in the World of Technology, all exhibits are interactive and visitors are allowed to try everything. The unifying element remains the works and visions of Jules Verne.
Visitors can look forward, among other things, to a new section of the exhibition focusing on shipping transportation. Not only will visitors be able to try pedal boat races, but also experience what it is like to be the captain of a ship. People will now be able to climb the walkway to the platform above the blowers, view them in their full glory, and look inside.
Furthermore, they can test the pneumatic mail system, or discover the principle of transporting materials through pneumatic tubes. Another feature in U6, in addition to the traditionally popular machining workshop, is the new metal workshop. Visitors will be able to try cutting, bending, or stamping sheet metal and can even make their own badge.
- 12 metres – height of the observation platform above the exhibition
- 1938 – completion of the construction of the VI. energy central
- 900 tons – weight of the original giant blowers
- 900 m² – area of the exhibition
In the building of the VI. energy central
The Little World of Technology U6 is located in a historic brick building of the former VI. energy central, right opposite the Big World of Technology. The building still houses a pair of gas piston blowers from 1938 and 1948. The interactive exhibition was first opened here in the autumn of 2012.
The exhibition is guided by Jules Verne and his novels. You will gradually journey from the steam engine through metallurgy, transportation, and energy to combustion engines, aviation, and space exploration. The largest exhibit is the submarine Nautilus. Allow at least 2 hours for your visit; the building is partially accessible.
