The aim of the two-day meeting on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Jan Balabán's death is to popularise his work, especially among teachers and the general public. The programme combines strictly educational events (lectures, methodological workshop, interpretative seminar) with happenings (readings on a tram) and exclusive discussions with artists, united by the generational initiation of the unforgettable nineties. Writer Jan Balabán is regarded by the professional community as a significant author whose importance transcends the Ostrava region and whose timeless work provokes deep reading. His texts will often be read and quoted to measure their ability to withstand the test of time against today's readers. The event will take place in the Lower Vítkovice area, in the small hall of Gong. The industrial environment was familiar to Jan Balabán, who grew up in Ostrava and worked as a translator in Vítkovice for 15 years. The meeting of writers, artists, visual artists, and also experts on regional culture will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the full breadth of this significant author's work and to try out how to teach about him interestingly using available materials and documents. The programme will culminate on Thursday with a party and on Friday with the unveiling of the 'Balabán' footbridge and a literary walk through the city centre.
The event has limited capacity and the participation fee is symbolic and ONLY APPLIES TO TEACHERS (they will receive a certificate of completion of the programme and lunch and refreshments will be provided for them). Therefore, do not hesitate too much with registration. Costs are covered by a sponsorship contribution from Veolia a.s. and a grant from the Statutory City of Ostrava. For the general public, the event is free.
The conference takes place in the Small Hall of GONG.
The course fee can be paid from so-called templates. Participants – teachers will receive a CERTIFICATE. We look forward to meeting you!
