Museum of Food and Agricultural Machinery – Ostrava

The Museum of Food and Agricultural Machinery is the Ostrava branch of the National Agricultural Museum located in two original factory halls of Dolní Vítkovice. Here you will find tractors and agricultural machinery, an interactive Food Depository, a Gallery of Czech Food, and temporary exhibitions.

The depository-exhibition facility of the National Agricultural Museum in Ostrava has grown into two original factory halls in Dolní Vítkovice.

The Ostrava branch offers visitors study depositories of agricultural technology, exhibitions of the Food Depository and the Gallery of Czech Food, and regularly prepares temporary exhibitions, events, and educational programs.

From a dilapidated hall to a museum

The halls once produced copper from the remnants of iron production. Production ceased in the 1960s and the building then fell into disrepair. The National Agricultural Museum, with the support of the Integrated Regional Operational Programme, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the European Union, repaired, preserved, and completed it – one completely dilapidated wall had to be rebuilt. The project cost over 130 million crowns and the museum opened to the public in September 2020 as the first state museum in Ostrava.

What you will see in the museum

The study depositories display tractors, machines for processing fodder, and machines for processing grains. The Food Depository presents food in an interactive way. The Gallery of Czech Food on the second floor showcases 30 interesting contemporary foods and also includes an educational centre. The museum focuses on agricultural and food traditions of Northern Moravia and Czech Silesia and prepares educational programs for schools. Visitors have access to a cloakroom, a museum shop with souvenirs and publications, and parking nearby the building. The museum is part of the Technotrasa, which connects the technical monuments of the region.
