RockOpera Prague has expanded its ancient series with the opera Troy. It follows its classic titles Antigone, Oedipus Tyrannus, and 7 Against Thebes.
"The character of the evil King Agamemnon will be played by Kamil Střihavka, for whom Troy represents a pivotal theme. This also marks his first major villain role in RockOpera Prague," says the executive director, singer, and librettist Pavla Forest, who portrays the prophetess Cassandra in Troy. The attractive cast also includes Honza Tláskal, Martin Sluka, Daniela Gildenlöw Langrová, Helena Kubelková, and others.
"We did not base our work on any known film or literary adaptation. We were only interested in the legend, on the basis of which we created a completely new script," Forest explains.
"I created something for Troy that is a mix between desert music and metal. I enjoy combining ethno and heavy music," adds the artistic director, composer, and keyboardist Milan Steigerwald.
The direction of the opera, which deals with conflicts among ancient goddesses and suitors of the beautiful Helena, leading to a war conflict, was taken on by Irina Andreeva, known for her work in the phenomenal Teatr Novogo Fronta. RockOpera Prague also involved the group of scenic and historical fencing Burdýři, which theatre enthusiasts may have seen in earlier operas or in the acclaimed music video for the song Pláč.
