After two years when almost no events could take place on May Day due to covid-19, the Dolní Vítkovice area will come alive this year with a vibrant programme for the whole family. At the Vysoká pec č. 1, a great firefighters' competition - Ostrava Tower 2022 is being prepared. This adrenaline-fueled contest is part of the Czech Cup in TFA disciplines. Visitors will not only witness the incredible performances of the best competitors but also ongoing static and dynamic demonstrations by rescue services (firefighters, ZZS MSK, PČR, MP Ostrava - cynology and hippology). There will also be a booth for preventive educational activities and entertainment for children. The HZS Rescue Unit in Hlučín is also involved in the event. The competition starts at 10:00. Visitors can also test their courage and adrenaline at the Velký svět techniky. In the entrance hall, a gyroscope - 3G overload simulator is available. A major attraction is also the simulated Formula ride (Formula Student exhibition) or the new temporary interactive exhibition Baník Expo, mapping a hundred years of the famous Ostrava football club. If the weather is nice, a unique rooftop garden will also open, where visitors can sit peacefully and enjoy Vítkovice from a different perspective. There will also be a photo point by the globe, a small and large bouncy castle, and animators from both the Velký and Malý svět techniky U6 are preparing various games and competitions. And as if that weren't enough, there will be nitrogen ice cream! How to make it? We will show it in the Velký svět techniky between 11:00 - 11:30, 13:00 - 13:30 and 15:30 - 16:00. The new Galerie Gong, located on the ground floor of the Gong auditorium, is preparing a May Day workshop for children on Sunday. This time, young visitors will learn the technique of bookbinding and create a beautiful keepsake. The workshop is open for drop-in visits without prior reservation. “You can visit Dolní Vítkovice in any weather; we have plenty of tips for spending your free time with us. On Sunday, May 1st, we will also open a new information centre. Visitors can comfortably inquire which of our exhibitions they would like to see the most. They can also purchase all tickets there, including tickets to the Mining Museum at Landek. However, this does not mean that we are cancelling the existing sales at the receptions directly in the respective buildings. It is an enhancement of service for our visitors. We have placed the new Infocentrum Dolních Vítkovic on the ground floor of the Gong, right next to the gallery. It will be open all week”, says the director of Dolní Vítkovice, Tomáš Šiřina. May Day as a time for love will be enjoyed by everyone who heads to the Bolt Café - a café located about seventy meters high. Both lovers and singles alike can look forward to the sweetest kisses! Good coffee, soft drinks or beer can also be enjoyed on May 1st in the tram that stands in the space between furnaces 4 and 6. The “Lokalka” from 1965 will be open for the very first time this year. Meanwhile, the bistros and cafés Maleda in both the Velký and Malý svět techniky U6 will be operating as usual. Unless nature has other plans, a May Day kiss awaits lovers in the blooming cherry orchard, which is halfway between the World of Technology and the National Agricultural Museum. In the Dolní Vítkovice area, hundreds of parking spaces are available to visitors, and all are free. The area is also accessible by tram on lines 1, 2, 6, and 10. Stops are Dolní Vítkovice Hlubina and Dolní Vítkovice. ADDITIONAL TIPS! On Sunday, May 1st, open house days will take place at our partners. You are invited to VÍTKOVICE CYLINDERS (located in Dolní Vítkovice) and ŠKODA VAGONKA (1. máje street in Ostrava).
