Afternoon with Linocut: Come and carve something in the Alfred workshop

Do you feel like taking a break with some handcraft? On Saturday, 28 February, we are opening the alfred workshop for everyone interested in graphics and printing.

Linocut is about patience and surprise. Together we will go through the entire process – from transferring the motif onto linoleum, working with gouges, to the moment when you pull your first finished graphic sheet from the printing press. The workshop is open for pairs (parent and child), but all creative people aged 9 to 99 are welcome.

Come and enjoy the focused atmosphere of the workshop and take home your own original print.

When and where:

  • Date: 28 February 2026 at 14:00
  • Location: Great World of Technology, alfred workshop
  • For whom: Parents with children (9+)
  • We look forward to creating together.

What is Linocut

Linocut is a relief printing technique. The motif is transferred onto linoleum in a mirror image, and areas that are not to be printed are cut away with gouges. Ink is then applied to the raised surfaces, and the image is printed onto paper. Compared to woodcut, linoleum allows for smooth curves and working with large areas. This technique was popularised by German expressionists from the group Die Brücke, and later artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, as well as Czech authors like Josef Čapek, also engaged with it.
