An extraordinary installation of projects, sketches, models, and photographs of realized buildings is exhibited under the telling title "Josef Pleskot Ostrava" at the Gong Gallery in Dolní Vítkovice. In a building that is one of the most famous objects by Josef Pleskot, architecture is sensitively connected with the history of the company and the Vítkovice district. It also includes significant artworks that depict the original Ostrava or relate to Pleskot's creative view of the world. "Architecture and art are represented at the exhibition roughly half and half. We start with a reminiscence of the 19th century and the development of industrial Vítkovice. Therefore, in the so-called Art Stories, we show historical images - Vítkovice Ironworks through the eyes of Otto Botthagen, Vojtěch Doležil, Bedřich Augustin Tkaczy, and Milan Dobeš, as well as a model created based on the then most modern ship of the Vítkovice naval fleet bringing iron ore to Ostrava. However, we move from history to the visual arts of the 20th century, because - and few know this - Josef Pleskot could have been a visual artist, but he chose architecture," explained Jan Světlík, the author of the vision for transforming Dolní Vítkovice from a brownfield into a vibrant part of the city and one of the curators of the exhibition. At Gong, there is also a range of photographs and models depicting what has been realized in Ostrava according to Josef Pleskot's projects. From Gong to Bolt Tower, Trojhalí, Heligonka, or the World of Technology, to smaller buildings. An interesting feature of the newly opened exhibition is a "café" with video projections and a connection to the Museum Kampa in Prague, where the exhibition "Josef Pleskot: Cities" is currently taking place. In the "office," visitors can get acquainted with many studies, projects, and notes. They will also find a range of artworks by authors close to architect Pleskot. Among them are: Jan Merta, Tomáš Císařovský, Vladimír Kokolia, Milan Knížák, Krištof Kintera, Karel Malich, Adriena Šimotová, Václav Boštík, or Zdeněk Sýkora. In a special large-format collage of authentic interviews and articles from the media, interested parties will also learn much about Pleskot's way of thinking about architecture. Here, not only thoughts related to Ostrava appear, but also an overall view of architecture in the Czech Republic. Between the multifunctional hall Gong and the adjacent former energy central U6 (now the Small World of Technology U6), a temporary "Square of Josef Pleskot" was also created during the opening of Pleskot's Ostrava exhibition. At the same time, Gong was equipped with the "house number" 70, a reminder of this year's architect's life anniversary. The square will be visible in Ostrava, just like the exhibition at Gong, until mid-March 2023. Gong Gallery: Tuesday-Sunday, 10:00-18:00 PHOTO GALLERY FROM THE EXHIBITION OPENING
