Farewell
Sad news came on 5 December 2025. Mr. Lumír Plac (77 years old), former director of the Mining Museum at Landek, passed away suddenly. The farewell will take place on Saturday, 13 December 2025, at 10:30 at St. Nicholas Church in Ludgeřovice. After the church service, he will be laid to rest in the local cemetery. We express our sincere condolences to his family.
Landek Park Mining Museum
Lumír Plac led the Landek Park Mining Museum for many years and dedicated his entire life to mining. As director, he contributed to the development of the museum, for example, by introducing the mining train and making adjustments to the underground tour, which aimed to closely replicate the miner's journey to work for visitors.
The mining museum is located in Ostrava-Petřkovice at the foot of Landek Hill, in the area of the former Anselm Mine, whose dominant feature is a forty-meter tall winding tower. The museum was opened on 4 December 1993, on St. Barbara's Day, the patron saint of miners. With an area of approximately 10 hectares, it is the largest museum complex in the Czech Republic, and the tour reflects coal mining in the Ostrava region.
Godspeed, Lumír. We will come to say goodbye on Saturday, my friend!
