The newly opened Hotel VP1 ART fits into the overall context of the industrial architecture of Dolní Vítkovice. Symbolically, it stands directly opposite the former blast furnace number one, from which architect Pleskot created the unique helical extension of today's Bolt Tower.
The VP1 ART building was constructed during the socialist regime in Czechoslovakia. It served as a healthcare centre for employees of the former Vítkovice Ironworks of Klement Gottwald. The VP1 ART facility connects with the existing Hotel VP1 and forms a logical whole with it. A very specific feature of VP1 ART is the installation of unique art collections by Czech and international artists, focusing on key artists from the North Moravian and Silesian region.
The newly reconstructed Hotel VP1 and its unique part VP1 ART represent an interesting example of how in Dolní Vítkovice, not only technical industrial complexes are undergoing revitalisation and conversion into buildings for everyday life, but there are also reconstructions of buildings from the socialist era. A selected part of them is gradually transforming into a contemporary architectural and artistic unique.
