The footbridge connecting Dolní Vítkovice with Silesian Ostrava will be named the Jan Balabán Footbridge. The name refers to the writer, screenwriter, and translator Jan Balabán (1961-2010), whose life and work are connected with Ostrava. The proposal for the naming was approved by the representatives of the city of Ostrava at the initiative of Dolní oblast VÍTKOVICE, z.s. at their meeting on Wednesday, 6 November 2024. The proposal was also supported by the designer of the bridge, architect Josef Pleskot, and Jan Světlík, who is associated with the transformation of Dolní Vítkovice into an industrial area.
