For all art lovers, we are preparing a new exhibition. The opening will take place on 14th October 2021 at 18:30. The exhibition Immediate Relationships presents a selection of the latest paintings by Polish artist Marcin Jasik. This is the very first presentation of the work of the Polish painter to the Czech public. The curator of the exhibition is art historian and gallery owner Lucie Drdová. A publication has been released in connection with the exhibition, which includes an interview with Marcin Jasik and Kama Zboralska. Marcin Jasik (*1990, lives and works in Warsaw) is among the representatives of the emerging generation of contemporary Polish painting. He studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He defended his diploma thesis in the painting studio of Professor Wojciech Ciesniewski and in the sculpture studio of Professor Jakub Łęcki. In addition to painting, he also engages in photography and sculpture. The essence of Marcin Jasik's paintings is the constant search in the realm of the language of painterly abstraction. He draws inspiration from both his own experiences and the history of painting by transforming iconic images or motifs. His works exhibit a free, intuitive expression, guided by a conscious system of meanings and the logic of the forms used. An excerpt from Lucie Drdová's text about Jasik's painting: Since the beginning of this year, Marcin Jasik has significantly advanced his mental narrative and concretized its visual presentation. His source of inspiration is the prototype fresco by the proto-Renaissance painter Giotto di Bondone from the basilica in Assisi. The basic line of the scene, where Saint Francis renounces earthly possessions, is abstracted by Jasik and translated into a new series of paintings. Simplistically, he uses a horizontal division of the narrative with his own "intuitive" perspective to achieve a renewed opposition between the worldly (earthly) and sacred (heavenly) spheres, which, however, connect in the diagonal of the saint's gesture. His outstretched hand as a metaphor for dialogue with God materializes in Jasik's painting as a means of expressing human effort towards faith. Similarly, Jasik considers the individual planes, where the lower, earthly part of the painting is reduced to black horizontal lines rendered with quick spray strokes. Moving upwards, the artist uses soft pastel, which emancipates the luminosity and autonomy of saturated red. The first paintings of this cycle are still executed on purely raw canvas without underpainting, and the painter's gesture is very quick. With each subsequent painting, the perceived rift between these two dominant fields intensifies. At the same time, the sensory impact and emotional effect, which arise not only at the moment of the clash of black and red lines but also through the intense resonance of light and dark blue shades that build spatial depth, become increasingly prominent. You can view the exhibition at MDM until 15th February 2022 (extended). The exhibition project is supported by the Světlik Art Foundation. Special thanks go to the art patron Ing. Jan Světlík.
