The BiggBoss publishing house, in collaboration with the Milan Dobeš Museum, is releasing the artistic publication MILAN DOBEŠ: GRAPHICS 1962 – 2017. The book summarizes the impressive graphic work of the titular master of kinetic art. The launch will take place first on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 18:00 in the Ex Post gallery in Prague, and subsequently on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 16:00 at the Milan Dobeš Museum in Dolní Vítkovice. The launches will feature curator and art patron Jan Světlík and artist and musician Vladimir 518. A genius of geometric abstraction and kinetic art, a multimedia artist and explorer of new spatial illusions. This is how the artistic personality of graphic artist Milan Dobeš can be characterized. "Dobeš's graphic work is an interesting and significant phenomenon in the field of graphic art, not only in the context of Central Europe," says curator Jan Světlík about the ninety-year-old creative who received, among other accolades, a Gold Medal at the Graphic Triennale in Norway in 1999 for his timeless graphic work. He continues to attract global attention to this day - evidenced by his participation in major exhibitions of constructivism and kineticism, whether in Paris or Frankfurt am Main. "Milan Dobeš's light kinetic objects have always been exceptional examples of working with shape, space, and light, which I could only know from period photographic documentation. The visit to his museum exhibition in Dolní Vítkovice opened my eyes even more. The exhibition placed his lifelong work in the context of the creations of both Czechoslovak and foreign generational peers," summarizes his experience with the work of the pioneer of European op-art, Vladimir 518. The book Milan Dobeš: Graphics 1962 is the definitive conclusion and at the same time a comprehensive record of the successful exhibition Milan Dobeš 90, which was prepared for the renowned Milan Dobeš Museum in 2019 by the curatorial duo Jan Světlík and Zdeněk Sklenář. The Milan Dobeš Museum was opened in July 2017 in Ostrava's Dolní Vítkovice thanks to art patron Jan Světlík. Its cultural activities are supported by the Moravian-Silesian Region. It is located in the hall of the Multifunctional Auditorium Gong in Dolní Vítkovice. The Svetlik Art Foundation's collection includes his complete graphic work – exactly 155 graphic sheets. However, works by other Czech and foreign authors are also presented here – including Josef Albers, Victor Vasarely, Zdeněk Sýkora, Getulio Alviani, Alberto Biasi, Jesús Rafael Soto, Ludwig Wilding, Franco Costalonga, and many others.
