The Little World of Technology U6 in Dolní Vítkovice is currently undergoing extensive renovation, with the new exhibition being created by AVT Group a.s. The exhibition is located in the building of the former VI. energy central, where two gas piston blowers (from 1938 and 1948) dominate the exhibition space, weighing a total of 1,800 tons. In the near future, these two giants (formerly known as the lungs of Vítkovice) will be surrounded by around a hundred new exhibits that will entertainingly explain technical inventions from the industrial revolution to the present day to families, school groups, and the general public. Overall, the exhibition will be connected and unified with the figure of Jules Verne, who was a brilliant writer and visionary, and many of his ideas have indeed been realized over the years. Moreover, his year of birth (1828) coincides with the year the first blast furnaces were established in Vítkovice (Rudolf's Works).
The renovation of the Little World of Technology U6 is being carried out thanks to the project Post-Industrial Heritage of the Border Region. The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg V-A Czech Republic – Poland programme. As part of this international Czech-Polish project, a joint tourist route called the Coal and Steel Trail has been created, featuring destinations linked to industrial history. Therefore, it was necessary to modify and revitalize the current state of the interactive exhibition U6 to align with the above and thus deepen the experience and understanding of the topic. Emphasis is placed not only on industrial themes but also on mining, with a predicted overlap into contemporary and modern trends.
Alongside the ceremonial opening on 23rd June 2023, the second Industrial Day will take place as part of the project. This event is organized to support industrial monuments in the Czech and Polish border regions and is intended for all generations.
