Revival of the Little World of Technology U6

The Little World of Technology U6 is located in the VI. Energy Centre, where two blowers weighing 900 tons still stand today. After extensive reconstruction, it reopened on 23 June 2023 with an exhibition inspired by Jules Verne and more than a hundred interactive exhibits.

History

Two piston blowers (from 1938 and 1948) were placed in the building, weighing a total of 900 tons. The blowers were powered by blast furnace gas and produced air for Blast Furnace No. 1. They were manufactured in Vítkovice under a license from Erhard and Semmer. The temperature of the air when passing through the expansion vessel into the pipes and then into the heaters was between 60 and 80 degrees Celsius. Finally, the hot air was released into the blast furnace, where it supported combustion.

Use in the Present

The two giant blowers in the Little World of Technology U6 remain, now surrounded by more than a hundred interactive exhibits that entertainingly explain science and technology. Between the historical blowers (once referred to as the "lungs of the steelworks") and the moving exhibits, visitors unravel technical mysteries. Since the end of October 2022, the Little World of Technology U6 has been closed for extensive reconstruction of the exhibition. The architectural design of the exhibitions was developed by a team of experts from nodum atelier, s.r.o. from Jablunkov, and the contractor for the new exhibition is AVT Group a.s.

The exhibitions are inspired by Jules Verne and his famous novels. A unique exhibition incorporated into the heart of the industrial facility of the VI. Energy Centre in Dolní Vítkovice. Inside, there are technical inventions that allow visitors to walk through the history of technological progress from the industrial revolution to the present day.

The ceremonial reopening of the Little World of Technology U6 will take place on 23 June 2023 and is associated with the event Industriáda, which is organized to support industrial monuments in the border region.

The renovation of the Little World of Technology U6 is being carried out thanks to the project Post-Industrial Heritage of the Border Region. The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg V-A Czech Republic – Poland programme. As part of this international Czech-Polish project, a joint tourist route called the Coal and Steel Trail has been created, featuring destinations linked to industrial history.
